Thriving in the Modern Workplace: Insights and Interventions for Burnout Prevention and Sustainable High Performance
The modern workplace is increasingly challenging, with the aftermath of the pandemic intensifying existing pressures. Burnout, already a significant issue, has been exacerbated by the rapid adoption of the new working practices necessitated by lockdown, which have heightened stress and strain on employees.
The reality is that most workplace conditions are not conducive to healthy high performance. Knowledge workers often excel despite the systems in which they operate, not because of them. This raises a critical question: How can we reshape workplace cultures and employee experiences to foster thriving teams and individuals, enabling sustainable success?
The Better Workplace Project, a global collective of researchers and coaches, has been at the forefront of addressing this challenge. Over the past three years, we have conducted extensive research, including hundreds of interviews with diverse high-stakes professionals—spanning corporate executives, elite athletes, military personnel, religious leaders, and government officials. Many of these individuals have faced burnout, some repeatedly, yet others have emerged stronger, cultivating resilience and self-awareness that now safeguard them against burnout risks.
This presentation will unveil our findings, providing a comprehensive overview of the frameworks, models, and tools we have developed to enhance self-awareness, mitigate burnout risks, and foster growth through adversity. Attendees will gain valuable insights into practical interventions that support employees in balancing performance with well-being, reduce cognitive strain, and create workplace environments where engagement and retention thrive.
